Our Arts-integrated Education Programme for

primary school

The Art1st workbooks for Grades 1–5 (available in Hindi and English medium) are designed with one belief at heart: that every child is naturally curious, and great art education simply gives that curiosity room to grow. Rather than filling children with instructions, these workbooks open up space — for exploration, for experimentation, and for each child to find their own creative voice.

Children work directly within the workbook, guided gently by visual and text-based prompts that feel more like invitations than tasks. For teachers, this makes art class a joy — no more scrambling for separate worksheets, and plenty of opportunity to try new activities and approaches alongside their students.

What makes these workbooks truly special is how connected they are to a child's everyday world. Activities are designed around materials children can easily find around them, encouraging them to look closely at their surroundings and find beauty and meaning in the familiar. And the workbooks themselves are full of delightful surprises — pages that fold into pop-ups, origami forms, accordion structures, and paper sculptures that leap right out of the book.

Our visual arts curriculum for primary school graders is a five-year programme.
This is where art is taught through various exploratory and play-way methods.

Using thematics, students are introduced to art movements, styles and art practices from around the world. Through storytelling, dialogue and various playful activities, they are encouraged to observe, examine, and reflect on their ideas and motivation. By the end of the program, their visual literacy, creative expression, and artistic styles are immensely strengthened. AEP focuses equally on enhancing collective working with the peers as well as engaging closely with the society and cultures.

The themes woven through each workbook are ones children genuinely connect with:
The Natural World & Environment
Self, Society & the Wider World
Learning through Sensorial Observation
Toys, Games & Technology
Story Time & Poetry

The curriculum challenges the rudimentary, restrictive views of art as merely technical skill or the domain of "genius."It aims to develop creativity in all children, regardless of their future field, and reframe art as a universal mode of expression. It promotes self-guided learning, imagination, and critical thinking.

1) The natural world & environment
2) Self, society and world at large
3) Learning through sensorial observations
4) Toys/Games/Technology
5) Story-time/Poems
6) Exploring different art practices & visual culture from India & International art world

These themes are unpacked through:
Essential inquiry Questions: Each chapter has a series of essential questions deconstructed as projects, which the young learner attempts to explore in their unique way.

Exploration through Local Knowledge: The workbooks provide an equal scope for observing and learning from the world around the young learners by understanding local ecosystems and using local material easily available to them.

Interactive art forms: They are also designed in such a way that various activities provide scope for converting the pages into dynamic pop-ups, origami, accordion formats, perforated shapes which can come out from the book and paper-folding to create various forms and shapes.

Aesthetic Awareness: Students learn the significant role that art plays in our lives and in society. Through works of art, the students learn how artists communicate using the elements of art, principles of design, skills and techniques, and forms and media.

Check for Understanding: In the 'My Journal' page, each lesson closes with support for encouraging students to continue thinking about the lesson’s art content and Essential Question.
