Seminars & Trainings
Our Open Minds Programme is a collective learning platform for educators, art practitioners, and others interested in deepening their understanding of Indian art. We conduct programmes through our Art Studio and at partner schools, colleges, and art galleries in cities. We welcome interested collaborators and venue partners. If you are interested in co-creating or hosting an event, please contact us.
Our annual Visual Literacy seminar is held in Mumbai and Delhi. These are usually held over two days and discuss the latest thoughts and ideas on art education for children. Some of our past themes have included ‘Nurturing Creativity’, ‘Integrating Visual Literacy in Children’, ‘Practice, Artist and Educator’ and ‘Visual Literacy and Cognition.’ Please look at our calendar and register for our next event. To read more about our past seminars, please visit our blog.
Our book clubs introduce participants to a wide variety of topics – artist biographies, historical and pedagogical movements, the latest opinions and research on creativity, and other social commentaries. Through lively dialogue and discussion, we collectively examine how the provocative ideas presented in books can inform our understanding of Indian visual art.
In the past, we have read a number of wonderfully engaging books, including “Chitrakar-The Artist”, the autobiography of the artist Benode Behari Mukherjee, John Berger’s classic “Ways of Seeing” on art and society, Daniel Pink’s thought-provoking book “A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future” and James Mollison’s fascinating cross-cultural photographic, “Where Children Sleep.”
Artists themselves lead most of these discussions. If you’d like to know more about the books we’ve read, visit our blog. If you’d like to join us for our next discussion, please look at our calendar. We’d be very happy to have you join us!
Our Artist Speak Series examines an artist’s body of work and invites the artist to talk about their creative, emotional and intellectual processes. Previous speakers have included Tushar Joag, Sharmila Samant, Anita Dube, Gigi Scaria and Jagannath Panda.
We hold a number of workshops throughout the year. While many of these workshops are customised for teachers and educators, they are also open to the public. We offer short-term courses on the hands-on studio techniques and methods employed by India’s illustrious artists, and conduct workshops on Indian Art and Appreciation (from ancient to contemporary). We can also customise workshops depending on the needs of your school. If you’d like to learn more, please visit our blog to read about our previous workshops. Check out our calendar to know when our next workshop is being conducted, or contact us to tailor-make something for you!
